Ghost Hunters Halloween Special 2009 – It’s On!

Well it looks like Ghost Hunters have jumped back onto the Ghost Hunting bandwagon once again and they will indeed do a Live Halloween Special. The investigation will take place at Essex County Hospital and Josh Gates will be the host. Strangely that’s about all the details that SyFy is offering up. They will also have some of the contestants from Ghost Hunters Academy on the scene.

It’s interesting that they’ve waited this long to announce they’re even doing the event. It seemed like Jason and Grant were going to bow out so they could party it up at their Inn for Halloween. Did they just not get the details worked out until now or did it just take that many sacks full of money to get them to do the show? Just kidding guys!

So now we have Ghost Adventures doing their investigation at the asylum through Halloween morning and now Ghost Hunters doing their investigation Halloween night. This is shaping up to be one hell of an event!

Halloween is already 50% off

They don’t waste any time with putting Halloween merchandise on sale. I just got back from the store and most things are 40 or 50% off already. It still over a week away and they are trying to get everything off the shelves. Oh well, I did pick up a fog machine just for the heck of it so as soon as this damned rain lets up I’m hoping it will make it’s way into some new pictures.

We grabbed a few other decorations before it all goes back into storage. I can’t imagine the sales they’ll have next weekend!

My First Funkin

Just because I couldn’t light a pumpkin on fire doesn’t mean I still wasn’t carving them. Since Halloween stuff is all on sale for 50% off I bought a couple of Funkins to see how those would carve for me. No, I’m not going to set them on fire, it says not to do that right on the label. Of course, the fact it says not to do it right on the label makes me want to see what would happen if you did set it on fire. Probably give off all sorts of toxic fumes and horrible smells, unlike gasoline which doesn’t do any of those terrible things. :)

First off, they are a lot harder than I thought. Intricate patterns are probably not something I’m going to attempt. As I was laying into the foamy material with my pumpkin carving set, big sections would start to move and wobble. And no it’s not because I was drinking. Drinking and carving never mix! Don’t drink and carve, you might ruin your pumpkin.

Clearly I should have removed the tiny pieces first and saved the bigger pieces for last, but I still felt like I was going to tear the thing apart.

Second, the small detail work is a lot harder. It can still be done, but it takes a fair bit more effort to cut through the foam so some of the turns and twist didn’t come out as planned.

Maybe I just need to go a little slower the next time around. I bought four of them so hopefully the next one will be a little easier for me. Overall it came out pretty well, I don’t have a light for it yet, so no pictures but I do have another pattern selected. I might try and carve it tonight if I have time. The Funkins are pretty neat, but I need some more practice with them. Just an excuse to buy more I guess, nothing wrong with that!

Flaming Pumpkins called off due to rain!

This is the second Saturday in a row where the weather has stopped the launch of my flaming pumpkins. Once again, it was too rainy and windy to light one. Despite how it may appear the flame is extremely susceptible to wind. Not only does it not look anywhere near as good, I don’t need flaming ember flying all over the back yard and setting who knows what on fire. Plus standing in the rain with a camera isn’t fun for me and it’s no good for the equipment.

The part that really sucks is that I have 11 pumpkins on my porch just waiting to fulfill their ultimate Halloween destiny and I can’t do anything with them! The longer Mother Nature tries to thwart my efforts the bigger the final Halloween send off becomes. The streets will flow with gasoline!
